Decode

Decode was a brilliantly fantastic exhibition being held at the V&A spring 2010, so it is now unfortunately over for viewing but you can find out more information about it on the V&A website.

It was an incredible exhibition, exhibiting a range artists work who I admire so much, such as Simon Heijdens. The exhibition was able to show me the amazing possibilities of bringing digital technology into textiles art.

The exhibition explores three themes: Code presents pieces that use computer code to create new works and looks at how code can be programmed to create constantly fluid and ever-changing works. Interactivity looks at works that are directly influenced by the viewer. Visitors were invited to interact with and contribute to the development of the exhibits. Network focuses of work that comment on and utilise the digital traces left behind by everyday communications and looks at how advanced technologies and the Internet have enabled new types of social interaction and mediums of self interaction.

Above, interactive white board allowed viewers to swipe colour across the empyt screen.

Above, digital design allowed viewers who walked in front of it to create their shadow.

Above, Digital Dandelion is an interactive experience allowing users to blow away the seeds of a dandelion using an electric hairdryer.
