An education in Sweden.....

During the easter holidays I visited the delightful Country of Sweden! As part of my travels I got to see a vast amount of the country and its contrasting cities and countryside. Places I visited include Stockholm, Uppsala, and Mora. On my visit I went to two different weaving mills, both very traditional but none the less a really intresting, educational visit!

This particular weaving mill uses the oldest looms in world dating right back to the 1930's. They also provide woven fabric for the Royal family in Sweden. All the weaves combine of cotton and linen yarn as together they provide a much stronger fabric in the end which could with hold for years.
The warp is all hand threaded. Everything cut by hand, and they weave upto 2metres per hour. Pretty impressive stuff i'd say!!

This is the next weaving mill that I spent some time at. Everything here was very traditionally sewdish but it was really intresting to learn about other cultures different traditions. Also everything at this mill was hand woven;

Some sites of Sweden I managed to catch on camera! ......Stockholm;

The mid-summer may pole in Mora. Each village has their own colours for their may pole.

The last reaming evidence of snow! As spring begins to break through in Sweden now;

A sunny day in Uppsala;

I had a really great time in Sweden I learnt so much about it's traditions and culture, it was a really fun, intresting, and exciting place to be....even if it was a bit on the expensive side!
