Over the past two weeks I have been experimenting with my weaving - As I'm looking at the beauty after death within the flowers, I am mostly interested in the disheveled curves and crumbly fragile outlook of the flower. And so, this is the effect I am hoping to achieve as an end result. Here is how I got on!
Firstly the yarns I am using consist of pure organic cotton and solvron - which is a shrinking yarn, but at the same time it also has qualities of being a dissolvable yarn! This should be interesting!!
So this is one of the completed samples, I've kept it very simple just using plain weave as I'm mostly intrested in the finish of the weave.
As proof before I shrink my weave I have measured the woven fabric so that I can compare how much it has shrunk by. So before shrinking this weave was 124cm.
After shrinking the weave decreased by 35cm measuring at 89cm
The end result of this experimental weave;
I'm really pleased with the result of this particular shrinking yarn (Solvron). Its only negatives were that, whilst threading up my warp it did tend to fray an awful lot, also using this yarn makes it very hard to dye things if I wanted to involve some colour. I'm really keane now to carrying on trying to experiment with other types of shrinking yarns to compare there different qualities.
